Russia’s greenhouse vegetable harvest rises 2.8 percent by mid-October
Russian greenhouse growers harvested almost 1.2 million tonnes of vegetables by 15 October, up 2.8 percent from the same date last year, the Agriculture Ministry said, according to Interfax.
The harvest included about 672 thousand tonnes of cucumbers and approximately 543 thousand tonnes of tomatoes. The ministry named the Moscow and Lipetsk regions and Stavropol territory among the leading producers.
Harvesting of open-field vegetables continues. Around 4.3 million tonnes had been gathered in that segment by mid-October, the ministry said.
Russia has more than 350 greenhouse businesses in 76 regions. More than 27 projects are planned by 2028, with combined annual capacity expected to exceed 164.2 thousand tonnes.
