Russian election commission elected vice-chair of Asian election body

Russia’s Central Election Commission has been elected vice-chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities for 2026–2028, the commission said following the association’s General Assembly in Manila.
The chairmanship passed from Taiwan’s election commission to the Philippine Commission on Elections. Philippine election chief Erwin Garcia proposed Russia for the vice-chair position, and the members present supported the proposal, according to the Russian commission.
Under the association’s charter, the vice-chair subsequently becomes chair. The executive board includes the election authorities of the Philippines, Russia, India, the Maldives, Mongolia and Uzbekistan, along with Taiwan’s commission as the previous chair.
Russia’s commission has belonged to the association since 2014. The next executive board meeting is scheduled to take place in Russia in September 2027.
