Russian gymnastics coach moved rooms after reporting bedbugs at Rotterdam hotel
Russian national gymnastics coach Ivan Gaponenko was given another room at his hotel during the World Championships in Rotterdam after reporting bedbugs, he told Match TV.
Gaponenko posted an Instagram video showing insects on the bed. He said he had gone to bed early after a long flight but barely slept because of bites he initially thought were from mosquitoes.
The coach told the broadcaster that hotel staff offered to steam-treat his belongings and send them for dry cleaning. Match TV reporter Dmitry Zanin said the accommodation had been assigned to participants by the competition organizers.
The Russian team's trip to the Netherlands had already been affected by visa difficulties. Angelina Melnikova, Viktoria Listunova and Anna Kalmykova were denied entry visas. The international federation, which operates as World Gymnastics, expressed regret over the decision.
Other Russian athletes received their passports only on October 14 and 15, a few days before the championships began, RBC reported.
