Svechnikov’s two goals help Carolina defeat Washington

Andrei Svechnikov scored twice and added an assist as Carolina beat Washington 4–2 in the NHL. A pass from Nikolaj Ehlers helped him score the decisive goal.

Svechnikov put Carolina ahead 3–2 with a third-period power-play goal. He credited Ehlers with an accurate pass that left him to finish the move.

The Russian forward said the team had struggled early but turned the game around by spending more time in the opposition zone and forechecking more actively. That was his post-game assessment.

The victory was Carolina’s sixth consecutive win, the official NHL report confirms. The team reached thirteen points from eight games and led the Eastern Conference. Mark Jankowski’s empty-net goal completed the scoring.
