Teen arrested after woman struck near Melbourne's Flinders Street Station
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after a woman was struck near Flinders Street Station in Melbourne on October 11. She was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Victoria Police allege the boy was driving a stolen Ford Escape along tram tracks on Flinders Street when it struck the pedestrian at the Elizabeth Street intersection at about 10:45 a.m. The woman is from Southbank.
The driver then made a U-turn outside the station and continued along Flinders Lane, where investigators believe the car hit several parked vehicles with nobody inside. The teenager, from Greater Dandenong, was arrested without incident on Beaconsfield Parade in Albert Park.
Police said the car had allegedly been stolen from a business in Cranbourne South at about 2 a.m. that day. Their statement said the boy would be interviewed. Investigators ruled out terrorism and a targeted attack and appealed for witness accounts and camera footage.
