Mumbai police register case over protest involving Tushar Gandhi

Mumbai police have registered a case naming 12 people, including Tushar Gandhi, and 350 others following a protest near August Kranti Maidan.

Zone 2 Deputy Commissioner of Police Ragasudha R. announced the case, The Hindu reported. The first information report, or FIR, was registered at Gamdevi police station under several sections of India’s criminal code. Shailendra Kamble, Prakash Reddy and Imran Khan were also among those named.

Police barricaded roads leading to the gathering site on October 10 and prevented protesters from reaching the ground. People arriving near Nana Chowk were detained and taken to police stations. Gandhi was detained in Bandra while travelling to the gathering and taken to D.N. Nagar police station.

Ragasudha said around 600 protesters had been detained across Mumbai and subsequently released. Further legal proceedings were continuing. The registration of an FIR starts a police case and does not establish the guilt of those named.
