Twelve U.S. senators urge Trump to cancel Russian diesel deal
Six senators call for Trump administration to ‘immediately reverse course’ on Russian diesel plan

A group of 12 Republican and Democratic senators has written to Donald Trump urging him to abandon the Russian diesel agreement. They called for General License No. 135 to be revoked.

The letter was published on October 13 on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee website. The senators also urged the administration to use sanctions authorities provided by legislation on Russia and Iran.

The authors said they supported an end to the Russia-Ukraine war but wanted a peace agreement on just terms. In their assessment, allowing Russian diesel into global markets would not help achieve that aim.

They also argued that the decision would have only a negligible effect on fuel prices for Americans. That is the letter's assessment. The appeal does not itself cancel the license or establish that the administration has decided to abandon the agreement.
