Ukrainian police report arrest in killing of five soldiers

Ukrainian police said on October 14 that a suspect had been detained in the killing of five Ukrainian servicemen in the Kharkiv region. National Police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi identified the detainee as a Russian serviceman.
The shooting occurred on October 13. Earlier, police spokesperson Viktoriya Ponomaryova told Ukrainska Pravda that an unidentified attacker had fired an automatic weapon and that investigators were pursuing a case of intentional murder.
Ukrinform subsequently reported the detention, citing the Kharkiv police communications department and Vyhivskyi. The report updates the earlier announcement that officers were still trying to identify and find the gunman.
Police said urgent investigative work was continuing and that they were checking possible involvement in another killing. The suspect’s alleged role remains under investigation. The announcement of his detention does not establish guilt.
