Valieva withdraws from Kazan Russian Grand Prix through illness

Kamila Valieva has withdrawn from the Russian Grand Prix event in Kazan through illness. The October 17–18 competition was to be her first official individual event with both short and free programs since December 2023.
Valieva announced the withdrawal to supporters on October 15 and said she hoped to see them at other events in the series. Russian Figure Skating Federation general secretary Alexander Kogan also confirmed that illness was the reason.
Valieva's last official individual competition in the conventional two-program format was the Russian championships in December 2023. Her appearances after returning to competition in 2026 have used other formats.
At the Russian jumping championships in late January and early February, she reached the individual semifinal. In March, she scored 70.09 for her short program at the Channel One Cup, the fourth-highest result among the women in that discipline.
In 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport imposed a four-year suspension starting from December 25, 2021. The sanction expired in December 2025. Valieva now trains with Svetlana Sokolovskaya.
