VK confirms challenge to European Union sanctions

VK said on October 9 that it was challenging the Council of the European Union's decision to place the company on a sanctions list and was seeking the removal of the restrictions.
The company described the decision as unlawful and unfounded. VK communicated that position to RIA Novosti, while its press office also confirmed the challenge to TASS. The announcement concerns the company's request to overturn the restrictions rather than an already completed removal of sanctions.
The EU Council listed VK and Communication Platform LLC, which is associated with the Max platform, in July. In its official announcement, the Council linked the measures to human rights violations and the use of surveillance tools. VK disputes the lawfulness of the decision.
A VK case against the Council appears in the InfoCuria database. The company's stated position and the existence of a court case do not mean that the court has upheld its demands. VK's announcement concerns its attempt to secure the removal of the decision through legal proceedings.
