Yoshkar-Ola investigators open criminal case over attack on girl

Investigators announced a criminal case on October 14 after an attack on a ten-year-old girl in Yoshkar-Ola. A local resident is being investigated for alleged hooliganism involving violence.
Investigators allege that the attack occurred on October 9 outside an apartment building on Petrova Street. A man grabbed the child by the neck. The Investigative Committee’s Mari El branch is handling the case under Article 213 of Russia’s Criminal Code.
A video published by local media brought attention to the confrontation. It shows a man grabbing and threatening a girl while another child nearby complains of being hit.
Local reports link the incident to a dispute between two girls at a playground and intervention by one girl’s father. That account of the preceding dispute comes from media reports. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the attack.
