Prokopyevsk teenager receives suspended sentence in banned-movement case

A sixteen-year-old Prokopyevsk resident received a suspended five-year-and-six-month prison sentence with a two-year probation period. The Kemerovo regional Federal Security Service announced the outcome on October 14.
The case was investigated under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of Russia’s Criminal Code, concerning participation in an organisation designated as terrorist. The agency said it involved the Columbine movement, which is banned in Russia.
The FSB alleges that the girl created a Telegram channel and published material supporting the movement’s ideology. Its statement refers to the period from January to October 2024. This article does not identify the channel or reproduce its content.
The FSB and regional Interior Ministry conducted the operational investigation, while the regional Investigative Committee opened the criminal case. The announced punishment is suspended, rather than an order to serve five and a half years in a penal colony.
