Zelenskyy reports extensive damage to Ukraine's electricity grid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported extensive damage to the electricity grid and transmission facilities after Russian strikes on October 9. His office and Foreign Ministry are preparing an appeal to Western partners about air defence needs.

RIA Novosti, Ukrinform and Associated Press reported his statement. He did not provide a complete list of damaged facilities or a monetary estimate.

DTEK had reported emergency outages in Kyiv the previous day. Ukrainian accounts described disruption to metro and surface electric transport, water services and power at parliament. These reports do not establish that all outages continued unchanged.

AFP reported that Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents able to do so to leave temporarily, while stressing that this was not an evacuation. Authorities were preparing fuel, water and food reserves.
