Cassation court upholds three-year sentence for Bauman lecturer Nesterenko
Russia’s Second Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction has upheld a three-year prison term for Bauman Moscow State Technical University lecturer Alexander Nesterenko in an extremism-incitement case, the court’s press office told RIA Novosti.
Moscow’s Lyublinsky District Court sentenced Nesterenko in late 2025 to three years in a general-regime penal colony and barred him from administering websites for two and a half years. An appeal upheld the judgment before the defence sought cassation review.
The case concerns Ukrainian songs posted on Nesterenko’s social media page. Experts appointed in the proceedings concluded that the songs encouraged violence against Russians as a group.
In reviewing the complaint, the cassation court ordered the return of a telephone seized from Nesterenko as evidence.
