Former Krasnoyarsk traffic police chief sentenced to ten years for corruption

Krasnoyarsk's Zheleznodorozhny District Court sentenced former regional traffic police chief Andrei Sirotinin to ten years in a strict-regime penal colony and a four-million-ruble fine, regional prosecutors reported on October 16.
Prosecutors said Sirotinin organised the plate-selling scheme with a subordinate and an acquaintance in 2024. Selected number series were sent to a particular registration office, assigned to acquaintances' vehicles and then sold to buyers.
The participants received more than one million rubles, including 350,000 rubles paid for a plate bearing the number 001, prosecutors said.
Separate episodes concerned repairs to Sirotinin's apartment. Prosecutors said an electrician provided a 119,000-ruble discount in exchange for the removal of records concerning police demands over the tinting of his vehicle's windows. Another tradesman performed work worth more than 100,000 rubles without charge after receiving help passing the driving theory test.
Sirotinin denied wrongdoing, saying the plates were sent to registration offices for senior officials and civil servants. The tradesman also denied guilt, while a third defendant admitted the charges in full.
The court additionally barred Sirotinin from holding law-enforcement posts involving public authority for six years. Prosecutors also reported the confiscation of property.
The tradesman was fined 150,000 rubles and the buyer of the 001 plate was fined 900,000 rubles. Two other participants had previously been convicted and are serving their sentences.
