Kallas criticises US easing of sanctions on Russian diesel
Russian attack on Ukrainian city kills 15, a day after Trump eases diesel sanctions on Moscow

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas criticised the suspension of US sanctions on Russian diesel on October 10, saying it would give Moscow additional revenue to finance the war in Ukraine.

In a post on X reported by Anadolu and Lenta.ru, Kallas said Europe would maintain pressure on Russia. Her comments followed a telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin the previous day.

Kallas said EU foreign ministers were expected to approve a new set of sanctions listings on Monday, October 12. She described the planned measures targeting Russia’s war effort as the largest such set. The announcement concerned an intended decision, rather than a package already adopted.

Trump said Russia would supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to US and global markets, with another 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons thereafter. Those volumes were his account of the agreement, rather than independently verified deliveries.
