Kentucky fined $500,000 after fans rush the field
The Southeastern Conference announced a $500,000 fine for the University of Kentucky on October 11 after fans entered the field following its victory over Louisiana State University.
The penalty was imposed under the conference’s rules on access to the playing area. Under the current system, the money is payable to LSU, which Kentucky beat 35–34 in overtime on Saturday night.
Quarterback Kenny Minchey’s successful two-point conversion secured the win. Thousands of students then entered the playing surface at Kroger Field to celebrate.
The SEC replaced its escalating penalty system before the 2025 season. A violation now carries a $500,000 fine regardless of the number of previous incidents.
The rules allow organised celebrations after visiting players and staff, as well as officials, have safely left the playing area. Schools must submit a plan to the conference in advance and communicate the procedure to fans.
