Medvedev defeats Tsitsipas to reach Shanghai quarterfinals

Daniil Medvedev beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5 in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters on October 14.

The fifth-seeded Russian completed the match in one hour and 24 minutes. The victory extended his advantage over the Greek player in their head-to-head series to 11-5.

Medvedev will face American Tommy Paul, the fifteenth seed, in the quarterfinals. Paul defeated Belgium’s Zizou Bergs 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. The Russian’s next opponent had not yet been determined when the initial report of his win was published.

Medvedev is 30 and holds sixth place in the ATP rankings. He previously won the Shanghai tournament in 2019. This year’s event has a prize fund exceeding $9.4 million.
