NAK reports 260 terrorism-related detentions in North Caucasus this year

Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported 260 detentions in the North Caucasus Federal District since the start of 2026 over suspected attack planning, financing, propaganda and justification of terrorism. The figures were presented on Oct. 13.
A meeting chaired by FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov addressed local-level prevention work with young people. The committee said most detainees were under 20, including minors.
NAK also reported that 33 terrorism-related crimes had been prevented in the district since the start of the year. Interfax and regional media carried those figures after the meeting.
The agency said more than 4,000 internet resources spreading terrorist ideology or encouraging interethnic conflict had been blocked.
Bortnikov said recruiters use promises of quick earnings online to involve young people in unlawful activity. He called for targeted prevention work in local communities.
The detention count covers several types of suspected offences. It is not a count of convictions and does not mean all 260 people were planning attacks.
