Ngumoha breaks Owen’s Liverpool record for youngest European assist
Rio Ngumoha has become Liverpool’s youngest player to provide an assist in European competition, breaking Michael Owen’s club record. He supplied two goals in a 4-3 win over Villarreal at age 18 years and 52 days.
In the October 20 match, Ngumoha’s delivery set up Ronald Araujo to level the score at 2-2 before halftime. After the break, he dribbled forward and passed to Alexis Mac Allister, who put Liverpool ahead.
Liverpool, citing Opta statistician Michael Reid, said Owen had registered his first European assist at age 18 years and 324 days. That came against Valencia in November 1998.
Mac Allister finished with two goals. Florian Wirtz also scored for Liverpool, who have 9 points after three games in the Champions League league phase.
