Russia reports drone strike on cargo ship in Mykolaiv port

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Oct. 9 that overnight drone strikes hit a cargo ship in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv port. It claimed the vessel had delivered military supplies.

RBC and Interfax reported the ministry’s statement about strikes on port infrastructure and ships that it said were being used for the Ukrainian armed forces.

The cargo-ship claim concerned Mykolaiv port in the region of the same name. The ministry described the vessel as having been hit, which does not establish that it sank. Its description of the cargo as military supplies was also a Russian claim.

The previous day, the ministry reported a separate strike on a cargo ship heading to Chornomorsk. It said that vessel carried supplies for Ukraine’s military and was attacked while at sea.

The Russian ministry has previously said it targets military and energy facilities and associated infrastructure.
