Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted three Houthi missiles

Riyadh said debris from one intercepted missile damaged a kindergarten and a medical complex.

A Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted 3 ballistic missiles fired from Yemen on Thursday, October 8. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said 2 were headed toward Riyadh and 1 toward Khamis Mushait, near the Yemeni border.

Saudi civil defence said debris from an intercepted missile damaged a kindergarten and a medical complex in Riyadh. It did not report whether anyone was hurt. The Associated Press separately reported the coalition’s interception statement and the damage to the buildings.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had launched a missile at King Khalid International Airport and hit its target. The claim has not been independently confirmed. Witnesses told AP they heard several explosions in the capital, including near the airport. Saudi authorities have not confirmed a hit on the airport.

The incidents came amid a series of attacks on Saudi airports. Saudi civil aviation authorities said 3 people were killed and 36 injured in attacks on Abha and King Khalid airports on October 6 and 7. The Houthis had claimed attacks on both facilities. In September, the Saudi-led coalition also reported intercepting a missile near Riyadh.

Fighting is continuing in western Yemen. Al Jazeera reported clashes between government forces and the Houthis in several areas of Taiz province. The International Organization for Migration’s latest bulletin, covering September 27 to October 3, recorded 21,798 displaced people and 191,064 people displaced at least once since the start of 2026. This is a separate count from Al Jazeera’s report of more than 200,000 people displaced.
