Authorities report power cuts affecting thousands of connections

Around 20,000 electricity connections in Luhansk lost power after an overnight attack, the local fuel and energy ministry said on October 9. The ministry said specialists were carrying out repair and restoration work.
The ministry reported electricity disruptions in other settlements as well. The figure of around 20,000 referred specifically to connections in Luhansk. It is a count of customer connections, rather than an established number of individuals without power.
Leonid Pasechnik had earlier reported attacks on energy facilities in the city and two other municipalities. Local authorities attributed the damage to Ukrainian armed forces. The account of the cause and responsibility comes from those authorities' statements.
In addition to outage-related cuts, temporary electricity restrictions were being imposed in several cities. The ministry said these were needed to reduce pressure on the energy system and carry out repairs. Its statement did not give a specific timetable for restoring supply.
