Moldova says it sent no protest note over Ukrainian border guards
Moldova's Foreign Ministry said on October 20 that it had not sent Kyiv a protest note after Ukrainian border guards crossed the frontier while pursuing a Ukrainian citizen.
The ministry said the incident was being discussed through channels between the competent authorities. Parliamentary national security committee chairman Lilian Carp had earlier spoken of a diplomatic communication to Ukraine. State news agency Moldpres reported his reference to an informational note.
According to Moldova's Border Police, two Ukrainian border guards illegally crossed the border in a boat while pursuing a man on the Dniester. Video from the border village of Holosnita circulated on social media on October 17, showing local residents intervening to help the man.
A criminal case was opened against the guards over the illegal border crossing. They were subsequently handed over to the Ukrainian authorities.
