
South Korea's KOSPI rose 0.07% at Thursday's open. Technology shares gained after Samsung Electronics estimated quarterly operating profit at 107 trillion won.
The benchmark added 4.78 points to 6,808.68 at the opening bell. Investors were watching inflation risks stoked by high oil prices, but technology stocks advanced.
Samsung said it expected operating profit of about 107 trillion won for July through September. The preliminary estimate was 1.6% above the market average. Reuters reported a similar estimate of 107.4 trillion won, which would mark a company record.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.66% and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.22%.
