St Petersburg court orders forfeiture of former police internal security chief's assets

St Petersburg's Petrogradsky District Court ordered real estate, vehicles and 171.52 million roubles forfeited to the state in a case involving former regional police internal security chief Alexey Vasilyev. The city's joint courts press service reported the decision.

The court found that Vasilyev and his wife had combined official income of 38.6 million roubles between 2010 and 2023. Over the same period, they acquired 23 properties and six vehicles worth at least 227.2 million roubles.

The assets were registered to his wife, mother, father-in-law, his wife's grandmother and sister, and other people. The court found that their income could not support the purchases and that Vasilyev's family actually used the assets.

The forfeited property included a flat and parking space in St Petersburg, real estate in Sestroretsk, the Sertolovo settlement and Vsevolozhsk, and assets in Moscow, the Moscow region and Sochi. Mercedes-Benz and Audi vehicles were among those named.

Vasilyev served in the internal affairs bodies from November 2003 to April 2023. His position required him to declare his own income, spending and assets, as well as those of his wife and minor children.
