Novovoronezh nuclear plant takes unit 5 offline for heat-exchange equipment repairs

Unit 5 at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant has been disconnected from the grid for repairs to heat-exchange equipment. The work is expected to take 12 days, the plant's communications department said.

The shutdown took place on October 17 at 02:48 Moscow time under a request agreed with the Central Interconnected Power System's dispatch administration.

Units 4 and 7 remain in operation, carrying loads according to the dispatch schedule. Unit 6 is undergoing scheduled preventive maintenance.

The plant reported no breaches of safe operating limits or conditions. Radiation levels near the plant measured 0.11 microsieverts per hour, consistent with natural background levels in the Voronezh region.

Unit 5 is expected to return to the grid once the repairs are complete.
