Poland detains man suspected of inciting Tusk’s murder

Polish police detained a 46-year-old man suspected of publicly calling online for the murder of officials, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Government spokesperson Adam Szlapka reported the detention on Oct. 13.
Szlapka said the man was detained the previous day in Oborniki. Parliament Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty was also among the officials allegedly targeted by the calls.
Reuters and Polish media, including TVP INFO, carried the government’s statement. It concerns suspected public incitement rather than an established finding that the detainee personally planned an attack.
Polish Interior Ministry representatives had earlier reported receiving information about possible attacks on Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The Oborniki detention statement does not establish a link between the man and those warnings. His guilt and the specific circumstances of his conduct remain matters for the criminal process.
